Good point. For simplicity I reduced "meaning" here to only one attribute, namely the value - which is the extension. But "meaning" in general there are other attributes. The expression "12 * (8 / 4)" has many other attributes besides its VALUE. It also has

- the number of operations

- the number of operands

- the length (in characters)

- the number of odd numbers

- the number of even numbers

- the number of odd numbers greater than 3

- the number of 8's

...

etc.

In theory, the INTENSION (full meaning) of an object (expression, picture, sentence, etc.) can be descibed by an infinite number of attributes, some might be relevant to us, while most of others are not.

But that simplification I made does not change the thesis of the post. :)
